A last gasp goal from Inter Milan denied me three out of three during the week as I’d predicted a draw in Kiev. There are no League One of League Two fixtures this weekend because of the FA Cup, but the Premier League and Championship are in full swing and I reckon I’ve picked a few decent fixtures.
On Saturday Manchester City welcome Burnley to Eastlands in what should be an easy victory for the home side. Burnley are still yet to pick up even a point away from Turf Moore and I can’t see them getting anything at City. It is not the most adventurous call, granted, but City have drawn their last four league fixtures which perhaps explains why the odds on the City win are at 4/11 – not quite as short as I expected to be honest. You won’t see the greatest return on your investment but this game is basically the definition of a ‘home banker’.
In the Championship Sheffield Wednesday welcome QPR to Hillsborough on Saturday in a game that should be great for the spectator. Wednesday have been solid at home and play some open and attacking football, similarly QPR are on a good run and also play attractive open football and picking a winner is a difficult task. However, I do think we’ll see plenty of goals in this one and over 2.5 goals pays out even money which looks a decent bet to me. If you fancy Wednesday they’re at 2/1, while QPR are priced at 8/5.
On Sunday there is an absolutely massive game at Hull’s KC Stadium. The Tigers entertain Stoke in the early kick off and these two teams in their second Premier League season are in very different place. If Hull City lose it could well be the end for boss Phil Brown who is under massive pressure, while Stoke are riding high at ninth in the league with captain Abdoulaye Faye talking about getting into Europe. Having seen Hull lately I’m not so sure they’re up for the fight and Stoke are the kind of team who will press and make you fight for every ball, which is why I reckon the Potters will pick up a vital away win. At 8/5 the odds on Stoke to take all three points are pretty tasty and I’ll certainly be having a nibble on Sunday afternoon.
