The big game this weekend falls on Sunday where reigning champions Manchester United travel to Arsenal.  Having seen quite a lot of both over the last few weeks that looks a pretty tough call so I’ll leave well alone, though a bet on Wayne Rooney as an anytime scorer might be worth considering following his recent goal scoring exploits.  Here are a few fixtures that have caught my eye.

In the Premier League Chelsea travel to Burnley and I can only see this going one way.  The Clarets have been rocked by the loss of Owen Coyle and Chelsea have started to get back to winning ways.  At 1.3 (3/10) you won’t see a huge return but this looks a nailed on away win.  Another Premier League fixture that catches my eye is Blackburn’s visit to West Ham.  The Rovers have a pretty poor away record, winning just once and drawing twice in eleven games on their travels so far.  West Ham aren’t a bad side despite their lowly league position and with Carlton Cole returning from injury they finally have a bit of power in attack.  At 2.18 (6/5) I reckon the Hammers are worth backing, especially considering Blackburn’s shocking away record.

In the Championship Middlesbrough welcome Bristol City to the Riverside Stadium in what should be an interesting affair.  Bristol were hammered 6-0 by Cardiff last time out, while Boro came away from Doncaster with a 4-1 victory.  Bristol don’t travel particularly well having won just twice on the road and I reckon Boro will take all three points in this one.  It is fair to say Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan hasn’t enjoyed the best start to his career in Teeside but he is a good manager and following the Doncaster result he may just have started to turn it around.  At 1.93 (10/11) Boro are basically even money and worth the risk in my opinion.

The last of my betting tips also comes from the Championship where Plymouth travel to Sheffield Wednesday.  This is a bit of a relegation six-pointer and should be a decent game but I expect the home side to seal a valuable victory against the travelling Pilgrims.  Since taking over Wednesday boss Alan Irvine has lost just once, away at Scunthorpe, and I reckon the Owls should be able to beat Plymouth at Hillsborough.  Wednesday are priced at 1.84 (5/6), which looks a decent price to me.
