Return of football after deep freeze

The UK has thawed out, hurrah! Finally the football season can continue and we can all get back to betting, here are my latest selections.

Liverpool have been dealt a massive blow this week with the news Fernando Torres will be out of action for around six weeks.  To compound their woes Yossi Benayoun (rib – four weeks) and Steven Gerrard (hamstring – two weeks) have also been ruled out and they face the tricky task of a trip to Stoke.  Stoke haven’t been in the best form of late but they’ve perhaps been unlucky and I have a feeling they’ll be able to get one over on the Reds on Saturday.  It is a big call but without the talented trio Liverpool are a very average side and they’re low on confidence.  Stoke are currently priced at 3/1 (4.0) and at that price I definitely think they’re worth some serious consideration.

In the Championship Leicester City travel to Swansea and the Foxes seem to have a bit of a hoodoo over the Welsh side this season.  Leicester have already beaten Swansea at the Walkers Stadium and they knocked them out of the FA Cup.  The visitors are in free-scoring form and seem to be making a decent push towards promotion.  Again, this is another big call as Swansea are no mugs and are tight at the back but at 11/2  (3.75) I’m willing to put this fixture in my betting tips as I think Leicester are good value for money in this one.

In the Premier League on Sunday Aston Villa host West Ham, with the Hammers suffering a major injury crisis.  Gianfranco Zola’s side have no senior strikers to call upon for the trip to Villa Park and I can’t see them getting anything out of Villa in all honesty.  It appears the bookies agree with me with Villa the heavy favourites at 4/7 (1.59) but this looks a safe bet in my opinion.
